Choosing the right desk for your office is important. After all, you will probably be spending quite a bit of time there, so finding the right type is key. Here, we weigh the pros and cons of a couple different types of office desks.
Corner Desk
Pros:
- They work well in many different room layouts.
- Great for multi-purpose rooms, like if you have to share your home office space with a guest room.
Cons:
- Not much screen privacy
- Lost space behind the monitor: In a corner office desk, the corner is the strongest point so people typically choose to put a computer monitor there. Unfortunately, quite a bit of desk space is lost back there.
L-Shaped Desk
Pros:
- Similar design to the corner desk, but more surface area
- Things are closer than if you were at a straight desk of the same length.
Cons:
- Still has lost space behind the computer monitor.
U-Shaped Desk
Pros:
- LOTS of work surface area
- Great for two monitors or two people sharing a desk
Cons:
- Takes up a huge amount of space
- If a U-shaped office desk was designed specifically for one space, it may not work if you try to move it to another one.
Along-the-Wall Straight Desk
Pros:
- Very stable surface
- Moves well from one place to another
- No lost space, the entire surface is usable.
Cons:
- No clear difference between computer space and writing space
- The wall isn’t a very nice view
Center-of-the-Room Desk
Pros:
- LOTS of screen privacy
Cons:
- Keeping cords from looking a mess can be difficult.
- If your back is to a window, the glare can get pretty bothersome.
Double-Bar Desks
Pros:
- Work areas are clearly defined.
- Lots of space to work with
Cons:
- Requires quite a bit of space.
