How to Enhance Productivity in the Workplace

Enhancing productivity in the workplace is more than possible!

Today we’re going to discuss how to enhance productivity in the workplace. Most workplaces would prefer happy employees, but many businesses don’t realize that they play a role in that happiness. Happy employees are more committed, more productive employees. Luckily, there are some easy ways to enhance workplace productivity only by changing up some office features or design choices.

Let In Real Light

Real, natural light helps workers stay on task and be more productive than those working in artificial light spaces. Exposure to natural light also improves sleep quality, which will impact productivity down the line. Ensure that all of your employees have access to natural light either through their window or in communal spaces.

Being In The Outdoors

Studies show that having plants indoors can improve concentration, mood, and productivity. Having plants inside enhances air quality, so plan to incorporate them into your design. These can be small potted plants on desks or a whole green wall, depending on your resources.

Brighten Mood With Color

Consider where and how you’re using color in the space and use it to its best advantage. Everything doesn’t have to be white walls and boring rooms. Choose green for areas that you want to be relaxing and red for spaces you wish to be energizing. Remember that yellow tends to inspire creativity, and blue helps people focus. Overall, muted colors are more calming, and vibrant colors are more exciting.

Set Up Spaces By Use

Open space workspaces are still a trendy design choice because of how much they encourage interaction and teamwork. Sometimes, however, people need privacy and solitude to focus. Designate a quiet space in your layout and set it up to allow and encourage quieter work. Another area you should designate is a break area or chill zones. While some businesses are still afraid that non-work spaces encourage less work, it’s just not true. Non-work areas and times encourage more productive work for the other parts of the day. People need breaks, so make sure you include a comfortable space for them to happen.

Choose Ergonomic Furniture

Finally, the furniture that employees have to use makes a significant impact on productivity. If they prefer to sit, choose chairs that can be raised or lowered to sit with feet flat on the floor and knees and hips parallel. These chairs should also offer lumbar support. Sometimes, people need to stand. However, so adjustable desks or standing desk options are also a good move. Provide wrist rests for both keyboards and mice, and make sure that there is enough room on desks for the monitor to be directly in front of the worker, not off to the side. Finally, provide headsets for anyone who frequently talks on the phone, primarily if they also type at the same time to limit neck strain.
